Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Description

@oleksii-pavlov/date-time is a TypeScript library that provides a DateTime class for handling date and time operations and DateFormatter class for date formatting.

The DateTime class allows you to work with dates and times, manipulate them, perform comparisons, and convert between different formats using DateFormatter.

Installation

You can install the package via npm:

npm install @oleksii-pavlov/date-time

Usage

Importing the DateTime class

You can import the DateTime class into your TypeScript/JavaScript file as follows:

import { DateTime } from '@oleksii-pavlov/date-time'

Creating DateTime Instances

You can create DateTime instances using various constructors:

// Create a DateTime instance representing the current date and time
const now = new DateTime()

// Create a DateTime instance from milliseconds since epoch
const dateTimeFromMilliseconds = new DateTime({ years: 2024, months: 4, days: 22 })

// Create a DateTime instance from a Date object
const date = new Date()

getDateTimeBefore(timeData: TimeData): DateTime

Returns a DateTime instance representing the specified duration before the current date and time.

const dateTime = new DateTime()

getDateTimeAfter(timeData: TimeData): DateTime

Returns a DateTime instance representing the specified duration after the current date and time.

normalizeDate(): DateTime

Returns a DateTime instance with the time components set to 0. (Returns the 00:00 time of the date)

isMomentEarlier(moment: DateTime): boolean

Checks if the given moment is earlier than or equal to the current moment.

console.log(now.isMomentEarlier(oneSecondAgo)) // true

isMomentLater(moment: DateTime): boolean

Checks if the given moment is later than to the current moment.

const oneSecondLater = new DateTime(now.getTimeInMilliseconds() + 1000)

getTimeData(): Required<TimeData>

Returns a TimeData object containing the date and time components.

const dateTime = new DateTime()
const timeData = dateTime.getTimeData()

getDate(): Date

Returns the JavaScript Date object representing the date and time.

const dateTime = new DateTime()
const date = dateTime.getDate()

console.log(date)

getTimeInMilliseconds(): number

Returns the number of milliseconds.

const dateTime = new DateTime()
const milliseconds = dateTime.getTimeInMilliseconds()

getFirstDayOfWeek(firstDayOfWeekIndex: number = 0): DateTime

Returns the DateTime represents the first day of that week. Note that this method saves the time of the current date so you need to use .normalizeDate() to set 00:00 time.

TimeData

TimeData is an object than contains data about date and time.

In DateTime constructor TimeData is one of the possible arguments. For Date properties years, months, days default values are today values. For Time properties hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds default values are 0 (00:00 time)

DateFormatter

Creating DateFormatter Instances

You can create DateFormatter instances with optional configuration for custom day and month names:

// Create a DateFormatter instance with default configuration
const dateFormatter = new DateFormatter()

// Create a DateFormatter instance with custom configuration
const customDateFormatter = new DateFormatter({

Methods

createFormatter(template: string): (date: number) => string

Creates a formatter function based on the provided template. The template can include various date and time symbols which will be replaced by the corresponding values from the DateTime instance.

const formattedDate = formatDate(new Date('2024-07-19').getTime())

console.log(formattedDate) // Outputs: '2024.07.19'

Customizing Date and Month Names

You can customize the short and full names for days and months by providing arrays in the configuration. This allows you to use non-standard names or translations as needed.

Special symbol combinations:
