Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Usage

Android

import { CoachMarks, CoachMark } from '@nstudio/nativescript-coachmarks';

// assuming page is defined
let AndroidButton = page.getViewById('my-button')
let AndroidLabel = page.getViewById('my-label');
let cm = new CoachMarks();
cm.initEvents(); //If you want events

cm.events.on('click', (eventData) => {
  // clicked on item at step index: eventData.data.index
});
cm.events.on('cleanup', (eventData) => {
  // clean up any instances in your implementation
});
cm.events.on('navigate', (eventData) => {
  // navigated to index
});

let marks = [
  new CoachMark({
    caption: '1. My Button.',
    view: AndroidButton
  }),
  new CoachMark({
    caption: '2. My Label.',
    view: AndroidLabel
  })
];

cm.start(marks);

Simple

Use static methods to show coachmarks.

import { CoachMarks, CoachMark } from '@nstudio/nativescript-coachmarks';

// assuming page is defined
let iOSButton = page.getViewById('my-button').ios;
let iOSLabel = page.getViewById('my-label').ios;

let marks = [
  new CoachMark({
    position: CGRectMake(
      iOSButton.frame.origin.x - 5,
      iOSButton.frame.origin.y + 20,
      iOSButton.frame.size.width + 10,
      iOSButton.frame.size.height
    ),
    caption: '1. My Button.',
    shape: CoachMark.SHAPES.DEFAULT,
    labelPosition: CoachMark.LABEL_POSITIONS.BOTTOM,
    labelAlignment: CoachMark.LABEL_ALIGNMENTS.LEFT,
    showArrow: true
  }),
  new CoachMark({
    position: CGRectMake(
      iOSLabel.frame.origin.x,
      iOSLabel.frame.origin.y + 64,
      iOSLabel.frame.size.width,
      iOSLabel.frame.size.height
    ),
    caption: '2. My Label.',
    shape: CoachMark.SHAPES.DEFAULT,
    labelPosition: CoachMark.LABEL_POSITIONS.BOTTOM,
    labelAlignment: CoachMark.LABEL_ALIGNMENTS.CENTER,
    showArrow: true
  })
];

CoachMarks.start(marks);

Advanced

Configure advanced options by creating an instance to listen to events and further customize coachmarks.

import { CoachMarks, CoachMark, ICoachMarkOptions } from '@nstudio/nativescript-coachmarks';

// define custom options
let options: ICoachMarkOptions = {
  continueLabelText: 'Tap Screen for Next Tip',
  skipButtonText: 'Exit',
  lblSpacing: 15,
  maskColor: UIColor.colorWithRedGreenBlueAlpha(0.30, 0.46, 0.89, .9)
};

// create a CoachMarks instance
let coachMarksInstance = new CoachMarks();

// initialize events
coachMarksInstance.initEvents();

// wire up events

// fired each time user taps screen and advances to next step (including the first step display)
coachMarksInstance.events.on('navigate', (eventData) => {
  console.log(`navigated to index: ${eventData.data.index}`);

  // customize 'continue' label or 'skip' button
  // their style can be changed upon each step or only once on first step
  // first, grab the coachmarks instance
  let instance = eventData.data.instance;

  // wanna change the arrow image for each step?
  instance.arrowImage.image = UIImage.imageNamed('custom-arrow.png');

  if (instance.lblContinue) {
    // customize continue button
    // only available when the first step fires (disappears after first tap)
    let labelContinue = instance.lblContinue.frame;
    instance.lblContinue.frame = CGRectMake(labelContinue.origin.x, labelContinue.origin.y - 20, labelContinue.size.width, labelContinue.size.height + 20);
    instance.lblContinue.backgroundColor = new Color('#FFE108').ios;

    // custom caption color
    instance.lblCaption.textColor = new Color('#FFE108').ios;

    // customize skip button
    let btnSkip = instance.btnSkipCoach.frame;
    instance.btnSkipCoach.frame = CGRectMake(btnSkip.origin.x, btnSkip.origin.y - 20, btnSkip.size.width, btnSkip.size.height + 20);
  }
});
coachMarksInstance.events.on('click', (eventData) => {
  // clicked on item at step index: eventData.data.index
});
coachMarksInstance.events.on('cleanup', (eventData) => {
  // clean up any instances in your implementation
});

// define your marks

// assuming page is defined
let iOSButton = page.getViewById('my-button').ios;
let iOSLabel = page.getViewById('my-label').ios;

let marks = [
  new CoachMark({
    position: CGRectMake(
      iOSButton.frame.origin.x - 5,
      iOSButton.frame.origin.y + 20,
      iOSButton.frame.size.width + 10,
      iOSButton.frame.size.height
    ),
    caption: '1. My Button.',
    shape: CoachMark.SHAPES.DEFAULT,
    labelPosition: CoachMark.LABEL_POSITIONS.BOTTOM,
    labelAlignment: CoachMark.LABEL_ALIGNMENTS.LEFT,
    showArrow: true
  }),
  new CoachMark({
    position: CGRectMake(
      iOSLabel.frame.origin.x,
      iOSLabel.frame.origin.y + 64,
      iOSLabel.frame.size.width,
      iOSLabel.frame.size.height
    ),
    caption: '2. My Label.',
    shape: CoachMark.SHAPES.DEFAULT,
    labelPosition: CoachMark.LABEL_POSITIONS.BOTTOM,
    labelAlignment: CoachMark.LABEL_ALIGNMENTS.CENTER,
    showArrow: true
  })
];

CoachMarks.start(marks, options, coachMarksInstance);
