Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

pub-sub-store

Build Status Coverage Status

pub-sub-store is a small state manager store that can be used to manage application state providing reactivity through subscription method.

Installation

Use the package manager npm to install pub-sub-store

npm install @n0n3br/pub-sub-store

Features

  • Centralized state management
  • Protected state (can't be mutated directly)
  • setState method to mutate state and trigger subscribers callbacks
  • subscribe method to watch and react to desired state changes

Usage

You need just three steps to start using pub-sub-store

  1. Create the Store
const store = new Store(); // empty state or
const otherStore = new Store({ name: 'Rogerio' }); // optional initial state
  1. Subscribe to store changes
// the subscribe method requires two parameters:
// 1. a callback function that will be called when the state changes
// 2. a configuration function that describes wich state mutations should be watched
// and returned to the callback function
// both parameters are functions that receive the state

const callbackFunction = state => console.log(`Received state : ${JSON.stringify(state)}`);

// only changes to the state.name attribute will be watched
const configurationFunction = state => {
  return {
    name: state.name,
  };
};

store.subscribe(callbackFunction, configurationFunction);
  1. Mutate the state
store.setState({ name: 'Rogerio', age: 44 });

Examples

There are two examples in the examples folder in this repository, one for nodejs and other for the browser.

ES6

import Store from '@n0n3br/pub-sub-store';
const store = new Store({ a: 1, b: 3 });
console.log(store.state);
const callback = state => console.log(`a value changed to ${state.a}`);
const config = state => {
  return { a: state.a };
};
subscribe(fn, config);

store.setState({ a: 2 });

CommonJS

var Store = require('@n0n3br/pub-sub-store').default;
var store = new Store();
var callback = function(state) {
  console.log(`received state : ${JSON.stringify(state)}`);
};
var config = function(state) {
  return { a: state.a };
};
store.subscribe(callback, config);
store.setState({ a: 2 });

UMD in Browser

<!-- to import non-minified version -->
<script src="pub-sub-store.umd.js"></script>

<!-- to import minified version -->
<script src="pub-sub-store.umd.min.js"></script>

After this the library will be available to the Global as pubSubStore:

const store = new pubSubStore({ a: 1, b: 3 });
console.log(store.state);
const callback = state => console.log(`a value changed to ${state.a}`);
const config = state => {
  return { a: state.a };
};
subscribe(fn, config);
store.setState({ a: 2 });

Running the tests

This library contains all tests in the tests folder.

The tests are writen using mocha, chai, sinon and sinon-chai.

To run the tests just use nodejs test script:

npm run test
