Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Tables

Tables display data across a set of columns and rows.

HTML

<div class="mdf-table">
    <table class="mdf-table__table" role="grid" aria-rowcount="3">
        <thead>
            <tr class="mdf-table__row mdf-table__row--header">
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 1</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 2</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 3</th>
            </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody class="mdf-table__content">
            <tr class="mdf-table__row" aria-rowindex="1">
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell A1</td>
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell B1</td>
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell C1</td>
            </tr>
            <tr class="mdf-table__row" aria-rowindex="2">

                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell C3</td>
            </tr>
        </tbody>
    </table>
</div>

Sass

@forward '@miraidesigns/table/styles';
// Configure appearance
@use '@miraidesigns/table' with (
    $variable: value
);

@include table.styles();

Examples

Sorting

Sort table data naturally in ascending or descending order, aware of strings, numbers and dates.

<div class="mdf-table">
    <table class="mdf-table__table" role="grid" aria-rowcount="1">
        <thead>
            <tr class="mdf-table__row mdf-table__row--header">
                <th class="mdf-table__header mdf-table__header--sortable">Name</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header mdf-table__header--sortable">Age</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header mdf-table__header--sortable" data-column-type="Date">Date</th>
            </tr>
        </thead>

        <tbody class="mdf-table__content">
            <tr class="mdf-table__row" aria-rowindex="1">
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">John</td>
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">55</td>
                <td class="mdf-table__cell" data-date-format="MDY">06/24/1966</td>
            </tr>
        </tbody>
    </table>
</div>
import { MDFTable } from '@miraidesigns/table';

new MDFTable(document.querySelector('.mdf-table'), {
    sortable: true,
});

Pagination

Pagination can be used to separate table data into multiple pages.
Requires the Select module.

<div class="mdf-table">
    <table class="mdf-table__table" role="grid" aria-rowcount="1">
        <thead>
            <tr class="mdf-table__row mdf-table__row--header">
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 1</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 2</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 3</th>
            </tr>
        </thead>

        <tbody class="mdf-table__content">
            <tr class="mdf-table__row" aria-rowindex="1">
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell A1</td>
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell B1</td>
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell C1</td>
            </tr>
        </tbody>
    </table>

    <div class="mdf-table__pagination">
        <span id="table-pagination-label" class="mdf-table__pagination-label">Rows per page</span>

        <div class="mdf-select mdf-table__pagination-select">
            <button class="mdf-select__button" aria-haspopup="listbox" aria-labelledby="table-pagination-label select-text">
                <span id="select-text" class="mdf-select__text"></span>

                <span class="mdf-select__icon">
                    <svg class="mdf-icon" viewBox="0 0 24 24" aria-hidden="true">

                    </svg>
                </span>
            </button>

            <div class="mdf-select__menu mdf-menu">
                <ul class="mdf-list" role="listbox" aria-labelledby="table-pagination-label" tabindex="-1">

            </svg>
        </button>
    </div>
</div>
import { MDFTable } from '@miraidesigns/table';

const table = new MDFTable(document.querySelector('.mdf-table'), {
    paginate: true,
    itemsPerPage: 25,
});

// Get the MDFSelect module we created within our table script.
const select = table.getSelectModule();

// Listen for changes on the select container element.
select.container.addEventListener('MDFSelect:changed', () => {
    // Paginate the table with the selected value.
    table.paginate(+select.value);
});

Filters

Filter table data by text input.
Requires the Textfield module.

<div id="table-filter-textfield" class="mdf-textfield mdf-textfield--icon-leading">
    <label for="table-filter-input" class="mdf-textfield__label">Filter</label>
    <input id="table-filter-input" class="mdf-textfield__input" type="text">

    <svg class="mdf-textfield__icon" viewBox="0 0 24 24">
        <use href="icons.svg#search"></use>
    </svg>
</div>

<div class="mdf-table">
    <table class="mdf-table__table" role="grid" aria-rowcount="1">
        <thead>
            <tr class="mdf-table__row mdf-table__row--header">
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 1</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 2</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 3</th>
            </tr>
        </thead>

        <tbody class="mdf-table__content">
            <tr class="mdf-table__row" aria-rowindex="1">
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell A1</td>
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell B1</td>
                <td class="mdf-table__cell">Cell C1</td>
            </tr>
        </tbody>
    </table>
</div>
import { MDFTable } from '@miraidesigns/table';
import { MDFTextfield } from '@miraidesigns/textfield';

const table = new MDFTable(document.querySelector('.mdf-table'));
const textfield = new MDFTextfield(document.getElementById('table-filter-textfield'));

// Filter table using the input value.
textfield.input.addEventListener('input', () => table.filter(textfield.value));

Checkboxes

Checkboxes can be used to select table row elements for scripting purposes.
Requires the Checkbox module.

<div class="mdf-table">
    <table class="mdf-table__table mdf-table__table--fixed" role="grid" aria-rowcount="1">
        <thead>
            <tr class="mdf-table__row mdf-table__row--header">
                <th class="mdf-table__header mdf-table__header--checkbox">
                    <div class="mdf-checkbox">
                        <input class="mdf-checkbox__input" type="checkbox">

                        <div class="mdf-checkbox__box">
                            <svg class="mdf-checkbox__indeterminate" viewBox="0 0 24 24" aria-hidden="true">
                                <use href="icons.svg#checkbox-indeterminate"></use>
                            </svg>

                </th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 1</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 2</th>
                <th class="mdf-table__header">Header 3</th>
            </tr>
