Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

angular-http-observer

Dev Dependencies npm npm-version license

Small utility to track angular http requests to get notified on completion and timeouts. Example use case is a loading bar that appears while requests are pending. Easy configurable debounce delay, request timeout and url blacklisting or whitelisting.

Installation

For installation use the Node Package Manager:

$ npm install --save @korbiniankuhn/angular-http-observer

or clone the repository:

$ git clone https://github.com/KorbinianKuhn/angular-http-observer

Getting Started

Import the HttpObserverModule and add it to your imports list. Call the forRoot method. Be sure you use the HttpClientModule as the observer works with an HttpInterceptor.

import { HttpObserverModule } from '@korbiniankuhn/angular-http-observer';
import { HttpClientModule } from '@angular/common/http';

@NgModule({
  bootstrap: [AppComponent],
  imports: [
    // ...
    HttpClientModule,
    HttpObserverModule.forRoot()
  ]
})
export class AppModule {}

Subscribe to the events of the HttpObserverService:

export class LoadingBarComponent implements OnInit {
  private showLoadingBar = false;

  constructor(private httpObserver: HttpObserverService) {}

  ngOnInit() {
    httpObserver.isPending.subscribe((groupName) => {
      this.showLoadingBar = true;
    });

    httpObserver.hasFinished.subscribe((groupName) => {
      this.showLoadingBar = false;
    });
  }
}

Options

You can configure the observer with following options. By default a delay of 200ms and no timeout is set.

// ...
HttpObserverModule.forRoot({
  whitelistedRoutes: ['foo.com', /bar.com/],
  blacklistedRoutes: [/localhost/],
  delay: 0,
  timeout: 10000
})

The observer can have multiple request groups with different settings, to observe different requests across components. By default a requestGroup with the name default is created. A requestGroup inherits and overwrites the global options.

// ...
HttpObserverModule.forRoot({
  whitelistedRoutes: ['foo.com', /bar.com/],
  blacklistedRoutes: [/localhost/],
  delay: 0,
  timeout: 10000,
  requestGroups: [{
    name: 'localhost',
    whitelistedRoutes: [/localhost/],
    blacklistedRoutes: null,
    timeout: 2000
  }]
})

Events

The following events are emitted by the observer.

/ ...
httpObserver.isPending.subscribe((groupName) => {
  console.log(groupName);
  // default

  if (groupName === 'custom') {
    console.log('show my custom loading bar');
  }
});

httpObserver.hasFinished.subscribe((groupName) => {
  console.log(groupName);
  // default
});

httpObserver.timedOutRequest.subscribe((object) => {
  console.log(object);
  // { requestGroupName: 'default', url: 'localhost', timeout: 2000 }
});

httpObserver.delayedResponse.subscribe((object) => {
  console.log(object);
  // { requestGroupName: 'default', url: 'localhost', timeout: 2000, duration: 3629 }
});

Testing

First you have to install all dependencies:

$ npm install

To execute all unit tests once, use:

$ npm test

To get information about the test coverage, use:

$ npm run coverage

Do not forget to add corresponding tests to keep up 100% test coverage.
