Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Joinimation

Adds classes to HTML elements when they become visible (as the user scrolls through a page).

Example

<body>

    <div data-animation-visible-class="animateMe">
        I get the class animatesMe as soon as I become visible.
    </div>

    <div
        class="animator"
        data-animation-visible-class="animateMeLater"
        data-animation-delay="100"
        data-animation-element-name="trigger"
    >
        I get the class animatesMe 100ms after I became visible.
    </div>

    <div data-animation-visible-class="animateMe" data-animation-trigger="trigger">
        I get the class animateMe when the element .animator becomes visible.
    </div>

</body>

Usage

  1. Import and setup Joinimation

    import Joinimation from '@joinbox/joinimation';
    const joinimation = new Joinimation();
    // Animate all elements with the relevant data attributes; use a selector different than
    // 'body' to only animate their child elements
    joinimation.add(document.querySelector('body'));
  2. Add the following attributes to all HTML elements that should get classes when they (or another specified element) become visible:

    • An element with the attribute data-animation-visible-class="className" gets the orresponding class (className in this case) as soon as it becomes visible.
    • If an element with a data-animation-visible-class attribute also has an attribute data-animation-delay="100", the correspdonging class will be set with a delay (of 100 ms in this case)
    • If an element with a data-animation-visible-class attribute also has an attribute data-animation-stagger="200", the animation will be delayed (200 ms in this case), but only if multiple elements become visible at the same time. The staggering effect will take place in the same order as the elements have in the DOM. The delay is relative to the previous elements that became visible simultaneously: If element1 has a stagger of 200 ms and element2 has a stagger of 300 ms, element2 will only become visible 500 ms after it became visible. What are staggers good for? Mainly to have elements fade in one after another on large screens (where they are aligned horizontally) but not on small screens (where they are aligned vertically).
    • If an element with a data-animation-visible-class attribute also has an attribute data-animation-trigger="name1", classes will be added as soon as an other element that has the attribute data-animation-element-name="name1" becomes visible. Make sure their delay the animation of an element depending on the visibility of another element. attribute values match exactly. Can be used in combination with data-animation-delay to
  3. If you need different transition settings (duration, timing function, delay) at the time when elements become visible (than e.g. when they are hovered later), initialize Joinimation with a class name that will only be added to the Joinimation elements while its initial transitions are running:

    const joinimation = new Joinimation({ isTransitioningClassName: 'isTransitioning' });
