Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Parcel Transformer Handlebars Revamped

Transform handlebars templates to HTML, enhanced with handlebars-layouts, handlebars-helpers and front-matter.

Installation

Install with npm:

$ npm install --save @jmilanes/parcel-transformer-handlebars-revamped

Install with yarn:

$ yarn add @jmilanes/parcel-transformer-handlebars-revamped

Usage

Add it to your .parcelrc:

{
  "extends": ["@parcel/config-default"],
  "transformers": {
    "*.hbs": ["@jmilanes/parcel-transformer-handlebars-revamped"],
  },
}

Project Structure

By default, this plugin expects your folder structure to be as follows:

- src
  - dada/*.{json,js}
  - helpers/**/*.js
  - layouts/**/*.{hbs,handlebars}
  - partials/**/*.{hbs,handlebars}

Configuration

You can customize the location of your handlebars files and extensions by adding a configuration file the root of our project, this file can be one of the following:

  1. hbs.config.json
  2. handlebars.config.json,
  3. .hbsrc
  4. .handlebarsrc

Configuration example:

{
    "data": "src/data/**/*.{json,js}",
    "helpers": "src/helpers/**/*.js",
    "layouts": "src/layouts/**/*.{hbs,html}",
    "partials": "src/partials/**/*.{hbs,html}",
}

That's it, create your html files using Handlebars and parcel will compile tham to .html.

Features

frontmatter

The plugin has built in support for frontmatter yaml. Processed yaml data will be passed into the templates before compilation. frontmatter yaml data will preferably be at the top of the template file such as the following example:

Source - example.hbs

---
title: This is a heading
desc: this is a paragraph
names:
  - bob
  - jane
  - mark
---
{{!< mainlayout}}

<h1>{{title}}</h1>
<p>{{desc}}</p>
<ul>
{{#each names}}
  <li>{{this}}</li>
{{/each}}
</ul>

Output - example.html

<html>
  <body>
    <h1>This is a heading</h1>
    <p>this is a paragraph</p>
    <ul>
      <li>bob</li>
      <li>jane</li>
      <li>mark</li>
    </ul>
  </body>
</html>

Handlebars Layouts

The plugin has built in support for handlebars-layouts. The advanced example shows how to take advantage of handlebars layouts. Please refer to their documentation for more information.

Handlebars Helpers

The plugin is also including all helpers found in the npm package handlebars-helpers. Please refer to their documentation for example usages.

Environment Variables

During compililation the plugin will also pass the following variable(s) to the template:

  • NODE_ENV

This can be useful when you want specific code to show up on production builds.

{{#eq NODE_ENV "production"}}
<!-- Production only code -->
{{/eq}}

Or perhaps the opposite

{{#isnt NODE_ENV "production"}}
<!-- Development only code -->
{{/isnt}}
