Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Install, and run it!

If you aren't familiar with typedoc, saying that typedoc is convenient is an understatement. If you are using TypeScript correctly, assigning types and interfaces, and commenting on what your code does - you can generate documentation on a static site.

Kudos to the author(s) and maintainer(s) of this brilliant library. We created this Nx wrapper plugin to solve our problem -maintaining several open-source projects is not easy, and certainly, any automation to make the code base maintainable is most welcomed.

Check out this quick demo on how to setup typedoc via this plugin and use it:

Getting Started

  1. Add the plugin to your Nx workspace:
npm install --save-dev @enio.ai/typedoc
  1. Run the following command at the root directory of your workspace, where <project> is the name of the project in the nx workspace you want to set up. If nx is not setup globaly, you may want to add it as npm script first (see details below) or prefix with npx when using npm. You can also run this command from the Nx Console extension for VSCode.
  nx g @enio.ai/typedoc:config <project>

Generating Docs

Run the following command, where <project> is the name of your project in the nx workspace.

  npx nx run <project>:typedoc

Optionally, you can create an npm script on the package.json file in the root folder of your nx workspace for convenience.

{
  "scripts": {
    "create.docs": "nx typedoc",
    "setup.docs": "nx g @enio.ai/typedoc:config"
  }
}

Then you could run commands:

  // Generating documentation
  npm run create.docs <project>

  // Setting up typedoc in your project
  npm run setup.docs <project>

By default, the documents are generated under: ./docs relative to root directory of the workspace.

Configure Docs

This plugin includes sensible default configurations for best experience. If you wish to further customize typedoc behavior in your Nx project you can;

  1. Update typedoc.json file in your project directory.
  2. Update typedoc entry options in nx.json to apply consistent behavior when running the generate documentation command for your Nx projects.
