Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

react-top-detecting-navbar

npm (scoped)

Installation

$ npm install @dgillen27/react-top-detecting-navbar

Basic Usage

import TopDetectingNavbar from "@dgillen27/react-top-detecting-navbar";

function App() {
  return <TopDetectingNavbar></TopDetectingNavbar>;
}

Default styles

The TopDetectingNavbar may be passed a base className and topClassName so you can style this component as you would like, I highly recommend using className and topClassName. However, if you choose not to pass a className or a topClassName, these are your default styles for the component The default styles are really just intended to give you a reference point for when you first start working with the package.

const defaultStyle = {
  height: "66px",
  width: "100vw",
  backgroundColor: "grey",
  position: "fixed"
};

const defaultTopStyle = {
  height: "66px",
  width: "100vw",
  backgroundColor: "white",
  position: "fixed"
};

Passing Props

These styles can be overwritten if you pass in props! TopDetectingNavBar accepts six different options as props:

| Prop | Prop Type | Purpose | | ---------------------- | --------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | className | String | Assign a className to the navbar | | topClassName | String | Assign a className to the navbar when it is at the top of the page | | height | Number | Assign a height to style of the the navbar in px | | width | Number | Assign a width to style of the the navbar in vw | | backgroundColor | String | Assign a backgruondColor to the style of the navbar | | topBackgroundColor | String | Assign a backgruondColor to the style of the navbar when it is at the top of the page |

Note: If you are declaring a topClassName, you need to declare a className as well

Advanced Usage/Passing Props

  • If you pass in a className, height, backgroundcolor, and topBackgroundColor will be ignored.
  • Passing in a className with no topClassName will give the component the className of the className that you pass it.
  • If you have passed a className and topClassName, the component at the top of the page will recieve a className of both (i.e. className="hello" topClassName="world" the component will have a className of "hello world") if you are not at the top of the page, it will only recieve the className of "hello".

Passing in classNames

import TopDetectingNavbar from "react-top-detecting-navbar";

function App() {
  return (
    <TopDetectingNavbar className="hello" topClassName="world">
      <h1>Your content here</h1>
    </TopDetectingNavbar>
  );
}

className at the top of the page will be "hello world"

className anywhere else on the page will be "hello"

Passing in style props

import TopDetectingNavbar from "react-top-detecting-navbar";

function App() {
  return (
    <TopDetectingNavbar
      height={66}
      width={100}
      backgroundColor="red"
      topBackgroundColor="blue"
    >
      <h1>Your content here</h1>
    </TopDetectingNavbar>
  );
}
