Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Type package for colors in your projects

Overview

Cvet (Russian word for "color", pronounced /tsvet/) is a color tool for customizing and picking colors easily for your projects. This package includes various types for typescript-friendly development.

Install

$ npm install -D @cvet/types typescript
$ yarn add --dev @cvet/types typescript

Usage

To work with types that this package offers you can either use cvet package that has following types imported or install this package for the use without the tool:

import type { HEX } from "cvet/types"; // with tool usage
import type { HEX } from "@cvet/types"; // with package usage

const color: HEX = "#FF0000";

Types

Package offers various types for most of the color models: HEX, RGB, RGBA, CMYK, HSL HSLA.

With these you can define colors like:

const hex: HEX = "#FF0000";
const safeHex: HEX.Safe = "#FF0000"; // Is a verbose equivalent to HEX type
const unsafeHex: HEX.Unsafe = "#BADHEX"; // Accepts any string

const amazingRgb: RGB = { r: 255, g: 0, b: 0 };
const notSoAmazingRgb: RGB = { r: 256, g: 0, b: 0 }; // Error, only 0-255
const safeRgb: RGB.Safe = { r: 255, g: 0, b: 0 }; // Is a verbose equivalent to RGB type
const weirdRgb: RGB.Unsafe = { r: -299, g: 989, b: 0 }; // Accepts any numbers
const amazingRgba: RGBA = { r: 255, g: 0, b: 0, a: 100 };

const cmyk: CMYK = { c: 0, m: 100, y: 100, k: 0 };
const differentCmyk: CMYK = { c: 0, m: 1, y: 1, k: 0 };
// Won't return error because the type is number,
// CMYK can be 0-1, 0-100 or any other format,
// depends on its usage in other packages

const hsl: HSL = { h: 120, s: 100, l: 50 };
const hsla: HSLA = { h: 120, s: 100, l: 50, a: 10 };
const differentHsl: HSL = { h: 0.33, s: 1, l: 0.5 };
const differentHsla: HSLA = { h: 0.33, s: 1, l: 0.5, a: 0.1 };
// Acts the same as CMYK as HSL has different
// usage cases

Also there are enumerated units such as Amount, Degrees, Hexadecimal, HexChar:

  • Amount accepts numbers 0-100
  • Degrees accepts numbers 0-360
  • Hexadecimal accepts numbers 0-255
  • HexChar accepts 0-F string characters as presented in HEX color model

Note HexChar isn't used in safe HEX type, see this stackoverflow question to know why.

Color models

Of course I'd want to include various types for defining color models: ColorType, Color, ColorMap:

  • ColorType holds names of color models supported by cvet: "HEX" | "RGB" | "HSL" | "CMYK" | "MAP"
  • Color enumerates all of the color models listed above so that it accepts them: HEX | RGB | HSL | CMYK | ColorMap
  • ColorMap is used as the recommendation for the standalone color model - RGB, use it for conversion
