Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Microsoft Application Insights JavaScript SDK - Angular Plugin

Angular CI npm version

Angular Plugin for the Application Insights Javascript SDK, enables the following:

Note: Angular plugin is NOT es3 compatible

  • Tracking of router changes
  • Tracking uncaught exceptions

Angular Plugin for the Application Insights Javascript SDK

Getting Started

Install npm package:

npm install @microsoft/applicationinsights-angularplugin-js

Basic Usage

Set up an instance of Application Insights in the entry component in your app:

import { Component } from '@angular/core';
import { ApplicationInsights } from '@microsoft/applicationinsights-web';
import { AngularPlugin } from '@microsoft/applicationinsights-angularplugin-js';
import { Router } from '@angular/router';

//-------------------------------------------------------------------------
// Special Note: If you also want to use the ErrorService you MUST include
// either the '@microsoft/applicationinsights-web' or include the
// `@microsoft/applicationinsights-analytics-js' extension, if you don't
// then unhandled errors caught by the error service will not be sent
//-------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Component({
  selector: 'app-root',
  templateUrl: './app.component.html',
  styleUrls: ['./app.component.css']
})
export class AppComponent {
    constructor(
        private router: Router
    ){
        var angularPlugin = new AngularPlugin();
        const appInsights = new ApplicationInsights({ config: {
        instrumentationKey: 'YOUR_INSTRUMENTATION_KEY_GOES_HERE',
        extensions: [angularPlugin],
        extensionConfig: {
            [angularPlugin.identifier]: { router: this.router }
        }
        } });
        appInsights.loadAppInsights();
    }
}

To track uncaught exceptions, setup ApplicationinsightsAngularpluginErrorService in app.module.ts:

Note: When using the ErrorService there is an implicit dependency on the @microsoft/applicationinsights-analytics-js extension which is also include in the that your MUST include the @microsoft/applicationinsights-web Sku, so for uncaught exceptions to be tracked your project MUST be initialized to include the analytics package otherwise unhandled errors caught by the error service will not be sent

import { ApplicationinsightsAngularpluginErrorService } from '@microsoft/applicationinsights-angularplugin-js';

//-------------------------------------------------------------------------
// Special Note: The Errorservice has an implicit dependency on the
// `@microsoft/applicationinsights-analytics-js' extension, which is included
// with the '@microsoft/applicationinsights-web' module, if the analytics
// extension is not included during initialization of the SDK this Error Service
// will not be able to send any caught unhandled errors.
//-------------------------------------------------------------------------

@NgModule({
  ...
  providers: [
    {
      provide: ErrorHandler,
      useClass: ApplicationinsightsAngularpluginErrorService
    }
  ]
  ...
})
export class AppModule { }

To chain more custom error handlers, create custom error handlers that implement IErrorService:

import { IErrorService } from '@microsoft/applicationinsights-angularplugin-js';

export class CustomErrorHandler implements IErrorService {
    handleError(error: any) {
        ...
    }
}

And pass errorServices array through extensionConfig:

extensionConfig: {
        [angularPlugin.identifier]: {
          router: this.router,
          errorServices: [new CustomErrorHandler()]
        }
      }
