Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Cryptkeeper

Some simple wrapper methods to help manage some crypto and crypto-random functions.

Compatibility

Version >= 1.0.0 now returns Promises and is incompatible with anything using version < 1.0.0

Install

Install the package

npm install @belsrc/cryptkeeper --save

Then simply include the module and add it into the application.

var cryptkeeper = require('@belsrc/cryptkeeper');

Testing

To test simply run npm test.

Methods

#base64Encode(val:Mixed)

Base64 encodes the given value. val can be a Buffer or a string. If an object or number is provided then it will be stringified before encoding.

keeper
  .base64Encode('Hello world')
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // SGVsbG8gd29ybGQ=
  });

#base64Decode(val:String)

Base64 decodes the given value.

keeper
  .base64Decode('SGVsbG8gd29ybGQ=')
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // Hello world
  });

#generateV4UUID()

Generates a crypto-random V4 UUID.

keeper
  .generateV4UUID()
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // f2d54c65-ee01-48dd-8d8c-f46322ac6cf8
  });

#randomNumber([numOne:Number[, numTwo:Number]])

Generates a crypto-random number. If no parameters are given then the returned number is between 0 and 1. If a parameter is given, the returned number is from 0 to the given number. If two parameters are given, the returned number is between the first number and the second number.

keeper
  .randomNumber()
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // 0.30741933521631026
  });

keeper
  .randomNumber(10)
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // 7
  });

keeper
  .randomNumber(10, 20)
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // 19
  });

#randomHex(numBytes:Number)

Generates a crypto-random hex string that is the given bytes long.

keeper
  .randomHex(16)
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // 77a534562141991263d1542546f8920b
  });

#randomBase64(numBytes:Number)

Generates a crypto-random base 64 string that is the given bytes long.

keeper
  .randomBase64(16)
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // mb5cIAM3NEHGd2josTWNnQ==
  });

#hmacMd5(key:String, val:Mixed[, encoding:String])

Generates a HMAC-MD5 for the given key and value. Returns the hash in the encoding if provided, otherwise, hex.

var key = 'foobar';
var body = 'The quick brown fox';

keeper
  .hmacMd5(key, body)
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // ccff21844ddf2e55e8ede3a08a0dc8f2
  });

#hmacSha1(key:String, val:Mixed[, encoding:String])

Generates a HMAC-SHA1 for the given key and value. Returns the hash in the encoding if provided, otherwise, hex.

var key = 'foobar';
var body = 'The quick brown fox';

keeper
  .hmacSha1(key, body)
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // cc05d9cab61c435ddd385cfcb24f1cad24dd3c33
  });

#hmacSha256(key:String, val:Mixed[, encoding:String])

Generates a HMAC-SHA256 for the given key and value. Returns the hash in the encoding if provided, otherwise, hex.

var key = 'foobar';
var body = 'The quick brown fox';

keeper
  .hmacSha256(key, body)
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // c8b664809ce67a2a07754c2ca31f726fb11363d86aab26f094656c58239e2501
  });

#pbkdf2Hash(val:String, salt:String, rounds:Number[, keylen:Number[, digest:String[, encoding:String]]])

Generates a PBKDF2 hash for the given salt and value with given number of rounds. The key length defaults to 56 if not provided. The digest can be specified and defaults to SHA512. The returned string encoding can also be specified and defaults to Base64.

var salt = 'random_salt';
var pass = 'strongPass';
var rounds = 15;

keeper
  .pbkdf2Hash(pass, salt, rounds)
  .then(result => {
    console.log(result);
    // LLYkQP/OJXpmEmEN9WTlzbYcJKofsBa+Qh9MHtpVdoB8OLeTKYcVGSK7QZrJcUFrtph3eWTCvDg=
  });

keeper
  .pbkdf2Hash(pass, salt, rounds, 56, 'md5', 'hex')
