Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

FREX

Description

FREX is a decentralized frontend hosting solution. Anyone with a solana wallet can upload a website onchain that will be hosted by 3rd party.

Requirement

Program

  • Solana 1.14.x
  • Anchor 0.26.x
  • Node v16

CLI

  • Node v16
  • ts-node package, to install: npm i -g ts-node

Installation

  • Create the file tests/authorityKeypairArray.ts containing the keypair to use for authority in the tests/cli
  • Create the file tests/payerKeypairArray.ts containing the keypair to use for payer in the tests/cli

Example of file:

// 8jn21TKa...7wxJeXVRm
export default [
    55, 55, 207, 55, 97, 71, 55, 43, 55, 224, 21,
    126, 55, 73, 4, 55, 43, 55, 84, 55, 55, 134,
    18, 29, 55, 50, 55, 189, 22, 55, 169, 100, 55,
    55, 26, 55, 3, 55, 156, 46, 55, 140, 71, 55,
    55, 163, 55, 55, 82, 55, 117, 49, 234, 55, 204,
    55, 55, 42, 55, 96, 70, 55, 231, 55
]
  • Execute the command npm i in the root of the project

Create new domain onchain / Upload new website version

  • Modify the file ./cli/index.ts and adapt the values:
    • domainName: is the domain name as a string.
    • bufferVersion: is the version of the website, starts at 1.
    • filePath: is where to find the file to upload.

/!\ Tar the file in .tgz before upload /!\

i.e: tar -czf CompressedDirectory.tgz directory/*

IMPORTANT: do not include the parent directory in the archive. Directory build/ and file build/index.html should be accessible directly.

FYI, to uncompress: tar -xvf CompressedDirectory.tgz

  • Execute the script:
  ts-node ./cli/index.ts

you may see errors like: signatureUnsubscribe error: WebSocket is not open: readyState 0 (CONNECTING) or Server responded with 429 Too Many Requests. Retrying after 500ms delay... or

signatureSubscribe error for argument [
  '3wSgK5Rrq9wUZzZSRe2mmdRphB4UMX6LqPvbvukLQmi9S9Ka3NYs3rZKnGYKNLRjK15MvAJ16414K1bC7oBBdMUV',
  { commitment: 'confirmed' }
] Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'send')

you can stop the script and relaunch, it will resume the upload. can be jumpy, depends on the state of the RPC.

Upload new onchain program

  • Execute the script ./script/change_program_id.sh to change the program ID
  • Be sure you are on devnet using solana config get
  • Execute the command anchor deploy

Disclaimer

The program is a POC (Proof of Concept) created for the sandstorm hackathon. It is not optimized, nor clean.

Technical TODO/ideas

  • Increases the number of bytes stored in a single BufferChunk account
  • Use multiple RPC to upload/reconstitute files.
