Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Integration

Update webpack config

You have to define some loaders to handle files of theme. If it's not already the case, you need to install :

  • style-loader with npm install style-loader --save-dev
  • css-loader with npm install css-loader --save-dev
  • url-loader with npm install url-loader --save-dev
  • file-loader with npm install file-loader --save-dev

Look at this example, you can use it in for your project. Check out configuration of Reapop Demo to see a complete example.

// CSS loader with some configuration
// read https://github.com/webpack/css-loader to understand each query parameters
var CSSLoader = [
  'css-loader?sourceMap&-minimize',
  'modules',
  'importLoaders=1',
  'localIdentName=[name]__[local]__[hash:base64:5]'
].join('&');

module.exports = {
  module: {
    loaders: [{
      test: /\.css$/,
      loaders: ['style-loader', CSSLoader]
    }, {
      test: /\.woff(2)?(\?v=[0-9]\.[0-9]\.[0-9])?$/,
      loader: "url-loader?limit=10000&minetype=application/font-woff"
    }, {
      test: /\.(ttf|eot|svg)(\?v=[0-9]\.[0-9]\.[0-9])?$/,
      loader: "file-loader"
    }]
  }
};

Install Font Awesome

This theme doesn't include Font Awesome to let you install it the way you want:

With Webpack

  1. Install Font Awesome with npm install font-awesome --save

and import it in your app. Example :

import '!style-loader!css-loader!font-awesome/css/font-awesome.min.css';

With BootstrapCDN

Add this line in <head> of your main index.html file :

<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/font-awesome/4.6.3/css/font-awesome.min.css" rel="stylesheet">

Set the theme

import React, {Component} from 'react';
import NotificationsSystem from 'reapop';
// 1. import Font Awesome
import '!style-loader!css-loader!font-awesome/css/font-awesome.min.css';
// 2. import reapop theme
import theme from '@anow/reapop-theme';

class ATopLevelComponent extends Component {
  render() {
   // 3. set `theme` prop
    return (
      <div>
        <NotificationsSystem theme={theme}/>
      </div>
    );
  }
}
