Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@adityasinghal26/backstage-plugin-auth-backend-module-daytona-provider

The daytona-provider backend module for the auth plugin.

This plugin was created through the Backstage CLI

Description

The package provides Backstage module to implement authentication via auth plugin. It uses OIDC for authentication with Daytona Keycloak to directly authenticate the user from Daytona and login with any of the two common sign-in resolvers.

  • emailMatchingUserEntityProfileEmail: To match the user email with the Backstage user profile email
  • emailLocalPartMatchingUserEntityName: To match the local part of the user email with the Backstage user profile email. Suppose, if the user email is example@daytonaio, then a Backstage user profile with the name example must exist. Refer examples/org.yaml for a test implementation.

Configuration

The Daytona module configuration will be under auth in app-config.yaml as below.

auth:
  session:
    secret: dummy
  environment: production
  # see https://backstage.io/docs/auth/ to learn about auth providers
  providers:
    # See https://backstage.io/docs/auth/guest/provider
    daytona:
      production:
        clientId: <daytona-client-id>
        clientSecret: <daytona-client-secret>
        metadataUrl: https://id.<your-daytona-domain>/realms/default/.well-known/openid-configuration
        prompt: auto
        signIn:
          resolvers:
            - resolver: emailLocalPartMatchingUserEntityName

In the above configuration, below are the options need to be handled.

  • auth.session.secret must be provided as required in Backstage authentication.
  • add daytona under the auth.providers section, where multiple environments can be configured and then referred in auth.environment.
  • add your Daytona Backstage client ID and secret. If you're using the provided backstage.json, then your client ID will be backstage in default realm and secret can be fetched by logging to https://id.<your-daytona-domain>.
  • sign-in resolvers can be as provided, either emailMatchingUserEntityProfileEmail or emailLocalPartMatchingUserEntityName.

Installation and Setup

The plugin can be installed by running the below command in Backstage root directory and later, adding the following in your Backstage backend.

# From your Backstage root directory
yarn --cwd packages/backend add @adityasinghal26/backstage-plugin-auth-backend-module-daytona-provider
// In packages/backend/src/index.ts

// Add the Daytona auth plugin provider
backend.add(import('@adityasinghal26/backstage-plugin-auth-backend-module-daytona-provider'));
