although "bloodsport 2" has no relation with the film "bloodsport," the sequel shares many similarities with the original film. the sequel was written by the director jean-claude van damme and it was produced by robert chartoff, the same man who produced the original film. van damme reprises his role as frank dux, the "american ninja" who is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to combating the wannabe gangsters in hong kong. the sequel also features the participation of dux's former mentor in the original film, doug malloy, who is also the star of "bloodsport 2." the fight sequences in "bloodsport 2" are almost identical to those in the original film, and in many cases, the fights are even longer and more vicious in the sequel. 


 "bloodsport 2" is the follow-up to the popular action film "bloodsport". following the events of the first film, the death of a mobster named andre leaves the vietnamese-italian mobster at the top of the heap. however, when dux, now a martial arts teacher, returns to the same tournament, he intends to take away the mobster's crown. but to do so, he must fight all challengers. "bloodsport 2" has received praise from various critics for its energetic fight scenes. it has also earned a cult following among the martial arts community. "bloodsport 2" was released in the united states on dvd by mgm home entertainment on august 19, 1998. the dvd was the last of mgm's 1990s releases to be released, with the rights to the company having been acquired by lions gate entertainment. the film has not been released on any other format since its initial release. a blu-ray release was announced in 2010. 84d34552a1
